Home alone...




From the beginning of this project there has been discussion on if I should capture the net curtains through film and try and make a small documentary. ATM this is in the air only due to the fact that I feel that the outcome should only be filmed if I feel that it lends a new dimension to my work, not just for the simple reason of just for fun. I shall however try and make some footage at least to see possible applications to the extensive theory work I have applied to the work.


Theory to my work: Looking at the area unseen to the eye

Within the structure of what I have researched I am interested in the area of society that do have net curtains for more than its intended purpose...

By looking at the works of Rachel Whiteread I see how her work can be relevant as a source of insight to the world behind closed doors - the following are notes I have made whilst observing and reading her practice and its translation to the audience.














The following are bullet points that I have made to myself and my thought process at this time:

- These early objects articulated a shared experience, rarely voiced by its subjects. But the process of abstraction, the solidifying of space into presence

- The everyday and the intimation of the unseen within its forms and reflections

- How do we live in this world, in this particular space?

- Object out of place, displayed here between negative and positive

- Making tangible that which wasn’t there by rendoring visible the immaterial

- Narratives of times and social relation within the confines of onesa house from which things are unseen

- To refer from the singular experience of space to the communal, and significantly, to the communication.

- Awareness from amnesia, profound political gestures

- Core intent is the intimation of unseen life

- A desire to see and know her world, a modern society weighed down by its imperial history and enervated by the scuffed reality of its currently…
